Our Pre-K program is designed to have students reading at age-appropriate levels by the time they enter kindergarten. Students should demonstrate a continual growth in understanding complex and varied vocabulary, and isolate the initial sound in some words. They should understand that print carries meaning, and be able to respond to and interact with stories. Additionally, we help our students use writing tools to communicate and use shapes, symbols, letters, and words with modeling support. Students in Pre-K should also be able to do the following:
- Read at age-appropriate levels
- Give attention to stories for 10-15 minutes
- Identify colors and shapes when named
- Able to return to equilibrium after experiencing stress
- Cut with scissors along a thick straight line
- Use possessive forms of nouns and a series of conjunctions
- Speak clearly and be understood by others
